The vigil begins — combat, the curse, and first blood

A first note from development. This is the seed post for the Wanebound dev-log — replace or build on it as work continues.

Welcome to the first development update for Wanebound: A Vigil Beneath the Hollow Moon. The goal of these posts is simple: share honest progress as the game takes shape, without over-promising.

Where things stand

Wanebound is being built as a vertical slice first — a small, complete piece of the game used to prove the feel before any bulk content is made. That slice is now playable from start to finish, and the core loop is real:

• Weighty, readable combat. Attacks have real commitment and clear timing. It already feels like the deliberate, grounded action the game is aiming for.
• The Beastblood curse. Landing hits fills a meter; a full meter lets Sera take a temporary, more powerful Beast Form — with a real cost attached. This is the signature hook, and it’s in and working.
• The first enemies of Velmoor. A handful of distinct enemy types are in, each asking something different of the player — from a straightforward stray to a howling pack-leader worth killing first.
• Movement and exploration. Precise platforming, a dash, and a double jump earned as an unlockable ability that opens up new routes.

An honest note on presentation

Everything above is playable, but the look is still greybox — placeholder shapes stand in for finished characters and environments, and there’s no music or final sound yet. That’s normal for this stage: the priority right now is to make sure the game feels right before investing in art and audio.

What’s next

With the slice coming together, attention turns to the first proper boss and fleshing out the opening region, the Wolvenwood. There’s a long road to the full valley of Velmoor — but the vigil has begun.
